After an absolutely fantastic night of grappling action, Chris Bowe walked away with the 1st place, trophy and €1,000.

With Grapplepalooza’s Elite tournament less than a week away, we take a look at the competitors vying for the title of Ireland’s Best Grappler – and the €1,000 prize money.

Sunday’s fights started promptly at 12, and we took our seats, well rested after early-morning yoga, and a Saturday night spent re-watching Gracie in Action tapes and sipping watermelon juice. First up were Cyborg and Werdum, with the latter narrowly winning as Cyborg incurred two negative points for jumping guard twice, most of the fight was spent with the two trading takedown attempts. ADCC 2011 – Saturday
Following a horrendously early flight on Saturday morning, and after checking-in to our hotel, we arrived at the Nottingham Arena just before the first fights started at 12.  The foyer was packed with a who’s who of the grappling world.  Roger Gracie and Kyra Gracie whizzed past searching for food, while Andre Galvao, Claudio Calasans and the Mendes brothers were filling up on carbs in the café.  After grabbing some lunch ourselves we got to our seats just as Cyborg tornado rolled his opponent into a triangle, …

I’m back. I spent three months in France, living up in the mountains and working. I didn’t get to train very much, but I made it to a BJJ club a few times –

Chris Leddy, Joey Breslin, Niall Mullen, John and Patrick Sheridan. Five men, probably squashed into a silver Peugeot 106, want to train in every BJJ club in Ireland. Hopefully we will succeed and more importantly, stop for a Supermacs on the way.
